Update from UKC Port District Sponsor Task Team …
Friday afternoon, I got a call from the County Auditor Jerry Pettit informing me that a sufficient number of signatures had been verified for our petition to be certified and forwarded to the County Commissioners. Congratulations! All of your hard work has paid off. You should all be proud. All of the doubters and naysayers have been proven wrong……at least for this leg of the journey.
The next leg is to move this forward through the Commissioner’s process and get the proposition on the ballot. The Commissioners are now required to advertise in the local newspapers and conduct, I believe, two public hearings. Commissioner Osiadacz (District 2) will be able to guide us here. Once we gain the approval of the Commissioners, the proposition will be balloted and the campaign will get into full swing. Please stay alert to this process and plan on attending the hearings as much as possible. They will be public hearings, so encourage your colleagues and supporters to attend as well.
I also met, last Friday, with Jim Armstrong from the Kittitas County Chamber. I wanted to discuss his role and the Chamber’s role in supporting the campaign. Through Jim, at least, as he stated in the newspapers, the Chamber and the County-Wide Port District Task Force have expressed their “full support”. At the next meeting of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, I plan on joining Jim for that purpose. I would like some of you Ballot Sponsors to participate as well, and will keep you posted as to the timing. Please let me know of your interest.
Finally, I strongly believe that we will get his proposition to the ballot. So, we really need to begin the campaign soon. Within the next three weeks we will be forming the campaign committee. I am creating a new e-mail list for those of you willing to continue on the journey. Please let me know your interest, either way, so I can establish the distribution list. Some of you have already expressed the desire to participate and are on the list. Again, any answer is OK.
Thank you all for your efforts and support to this point. I have been humbled and am grateful for where we are today. And I look forward to continuing the journey with all of you.
