Create an Upper Kittitas County Port District? YES!
“Upper Kittitas County will be seen as the Strategic Commerce Portal between Eastern and Western Washington.
It will become a Consistently Prosperous community with a resilient economic base. The economic foundation will be anchored by its already abundant Recreational Industry, and bolstered by expanding Entertainment and Retail businesses to support it. We will become known for our excellent amenities, service, and hospitality. …… A Destination to Stay & Play.
We will create an Innovative Commerce Incubator, focused on the commercialization of new technologies for Green Energy, Transportation, Communications, Machinery and Tooling. A Leading Edge Educational System, will become a new trademark for our community. Investments in capital infrastructure, fire, police and health services will become a priority to support the growing community.
Through the focused efforts of Cities and Towns, the Business Community, the Chamber of Commerce and our Citizens, we will establish a culture of managed and sustained growth, consistent with our Quality of Life Priorities.
Creating a UKC Port District is the right tool for making this happen. Ports are a unique animal – a public entity with a profit motive, or public enterprises. A port district’s primary goal is economic development for its community, with the end result of establishing Economic Durability.
Too often, Kittitas County has been classified as an economically “distressed” county within Washington State, and has perpetually lagged behind despite the significant resources and regional advantages it is blessed with. Growth and change is finally coming. If we pass on this opportunity now, we will get what someone else decides is best for us. It’s time to step up and create new history.
